OVERVIEW OF AUTONOMOUS UNION
OF SERBIAN WORKERS
Autonomous union of serbian
workers was established as a result of workers fight for more rights and their
union organization during 19th century. In the beginning of 20th
century, in may 1903., Union of serbian
workers was founded from the existing worker union departments, therefore the Autonomous union of serbian workers is the
oldest worker union organization today, with more than 100 years of tradition..
Today, in the year 2003, Autonomous
union of serbian workers gathers 30
autonomous unions responsible for all industry departmentsm services and comunal
works with 847219 members, therefore it is the biggest workers union central in
our country.
Employees become members and
establish their basic rights and protection at their industries in 6897 worker
unions formed in industries and other economic organizations.
Membership in autonomous
worker unions is volonteer and it is not conditionally by anything (national, faith,
political and other membership).
In order to represent
interests of employees and to protect their rights on regional and municipality
level, Autonomous union of serbian workers established 107 organizations and 61
departments in regions, shires, municipalities and cities.
Autonomous union of serbian
workers as organization of employees function independently of political
organizations, leagues and movements using methods and instruments of union
functionality, negotiation and fight in relationships with employers, parlament,
government and other subjects of state and system institutions, as well as by
colaboration based on principles of solidarity with other worker unions in
republic of Serbia.
